Return of the Stingray
With the introduction of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet redefined modern performance. Only a Corvette that features a perfect balance of design, technology, and performance is fit to have the Stingray badge and designation once again affixed to the Corvette name and body.
A Review of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, now officially known as the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, is a much more improved car from its 2013 predecessor. With a better exterior appearance, more premium interior and even better performance, the 2014 Stingray can unashamedly stand side by side with other world leading sports cars.
Interior
The interior of the 2013 Vette was not liked by some due to its somewhat cheap interior but Chevy designers made a stunning comeback with the 2014 Corvette interiors. The materials are plusher, boasting premium leather stitching. The seating and steering placement are designed to enhance the driver’s comfort, while the large touchscreen does a good job at showcasing the new MyLink electronic interface.
Exterior
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is deliberately more angular, increasing its sports performance appeal. It comes as a convertible or a coupe, and with two trim levels—the Z51 and base. Both the base and Z51 come with three sub-trims each i.e. 1LT, 2LT and 3LT
A key-less ignition, intuitive electronic features, cruise control, heated mirrors, 18-inch front wheels and 19-inch rear wheels, are some of the best features of the base 1LT Vette.
The Z51 1LT comes with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, manual transmission gear ratios, aero trim, electronic differential for the rear end, and suspension and performance brakes tuning.
The Corvette Stingray 2LT features rear view and side mirrors that dim automatically, memory setting, heated seats, and lumbar seat adjusting. The 3LT comes with similar attributes with the addition of a navigation system and improved leather upholstery.
Engine and performance
The engine and performance of the 2014 Corvette Stingray marks an impressive improvement from the previous year’s Corvette performance. The 2014 model boasts a V8 6.2 liter engine powering the drive wheels with 460 pound-feet of torque and a wicked 455 horsepower. This new engine brings in an additional 50 pound-feet of torque under 4,000 rpm compared to the 2013 Corvette. Matching the new engine with the 6-speed automatic transmission or the seven-speed manual transmission help in making it possible for the Vette to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 4.1 seconds.
Overall, the 2014 Corvette Stingray has all the features that make a Vette such an enviable icon—it’s got the looks, the strength, the performance, the speed, and once again the Stingray designation.
